— Former Student

Internationally renowned Italian teacher Paola Coletto specifically created this unique 20 week program to train a group of selected actors hungry to acquire new skill-sets and tools to advance their craft, and equally ready to break old patterns in order to take their careers to a new level.

The work is grounded in the European-based tradition of “physical theatre” where body, gesture, and play are placed at the centre of the creative process with the main focus on supporting performers in their specific career paths. The teaching provides students with an all-around platform of tools to be used to support their artistic journey whatever direction they choose to take: from text-based stage work, television and film, to original theater creations.

This training is primarily geared toward artists in the discipline of performance but it equally benefits directors, playwrights, designers, teachers, circus artists, dancers, choreographers, singers and musicians.

PROGRAM CORE ELEMENTS

Elements of Acrobatics

We use acrobatic to expand our understanding of the possibilities of the body onstage and stretch students to their limits, regardless of age and shape. Balance, flexibility, strength: this class is intended to provide students with a broad palette of movement that they can use for their craft.

Physical Preparation

Physical preparation is a fundamental and essential training of the body, through which the student discovers his/her own potential for expressive movement.  Drawing from a variety of disciplines, the objective is to broaden the student's scope and perspective, of movement in general and in particular, their own bodies in space.

Mime for Actors

Mime provides the actor with a greater understanding of the body and its expressive potential, with or without words.  Focused physical techniques offer the actor greater control over every attitude and movement, so that the body expresses what they want to express, and so that it more fully and precisely responds to their instincts.  This training helps develop stage presence, coordination, and various qualities of movement, and offers techniques for physically expressing thought, emotion, and character with the body.

Movement Analysis and Technique

Analysis of movement provides an unlimited amount of resources for play and creation while movement technique provides structure for artistic mastery. The practice of this work enables the artist to discover the source of personal impulse for action while training a greater awareness of the body in space. You will have the opportunity to apply the results of your analysis to the construction of characters, performances or even writing for the stage.

Improvisation

Be in the present, the priority of response and reaction on the action, action in play, the availability of "emptiness," rhythm, tempo, range, development of themes, the overturning of a theme, the recall of a theme and more. The daily practice and understanding of improvisation allows artists to play and "write" the theatre of their own creation.

Devised Class

This daily class is a self-taught, collective collaboration course. Without the direct supervision of the teachers, small groups of students work on themes connected to the overall coursework. This work develops performance skills, playwriting and directing.

Master the Business of Acting

Hollywood is a business that has a lot of unspoken and ever-changing rules, that can easily lead to a lot of mistakes, which cost actors time, money and emotional strength. Over the last 15 years, Kevin E. West has created a class to help actors avoid these same mistakes. Kevin is dedicated to assist performers with the business of show business and the intelligent pursuit of their careers by sharing an invaluable set of “Actor Game Skills”.

Alexander Technique & Vocal Preparation

This is designed to increase your presence, power and range as an actor and a human being; to use your body to create organic characters and to tune-up your instrument and psycho-physical connection for audition and performance. Transform stage fright into stage readiness. Like ways, voice training have an emphasis on the connection between body movement and sound: very physical and it involves the use of the whole body. Class will mainly focus on the fundamentals of Alexander Technique but at times it will serve as gym in which actor’s can bring in material they are working on (monologue, scene, character, movement) and examine it from the Alexander perspective.

Master Class: Meet top Hollywood industry professionals

Prior to the Master Class with Bernard Hiller, students will spend two days preparing material with their partners, with which they will audition for entrance into the weeklong Master Class. In this Master Class you will learn from some of the most influential people in Hollywood. Bernard invites Academy Award winning Actors, Directors, Producers, Screenwriters, top Agents, Managers as well as award winning Casting Directors.

THE ENQUIRIES
