Spring 2017 Workshops: Unmask what moves you.
The Red Nose Mask
The Red Nose Mask allows participants to experience the "clown state:" a powerful state of being-without-doing that gives the performer a profound sense of openness, authenticity and freedom in front of an audience, while revealing and developing a sense of play. Students will learn how to utilize breath, gesture, and silence to cultivate more physical awareness, emotional depth, and a stronger stage presence. Working in this manner will create the necessary space to follow the impulses required to truly play.
This master class is tailored to focus on the actor's craft as player and improviser, targeting physicality, being present in the moment, connecting with the audience and letting go of the inner judge. Be aware that this master class is not designed to create clown/comic characters or to work specifically on "clown" as a theatre style. The Red Nose Mask is fundamental to actors and creative people at any point on their journey and it will remain an essential reference point in their training history.
Workshops are primarily directed toward theatre-makers in the discipline of performance, but they equally address the work of theatre teachers, directors, playwrights, designers, choreographers and musicians. Students will receive one-on-one attention and honest feedback. If you often feel stuck in your head on stage, talking through scenes and not truly reacting, this course is for you.
Class size is limited to 15 students.
